Nursing Philosophy
I chose nursing as my profession because I believe that the nursing profession is a respectable and reputable profession. I want to help others that cannot help themselves. I want to provide holistic care to those in need. For me, the core of nursing is care, compassion and pride in caring for your fellow man. I believe this is demonstrated by showing respect for patient, family and fellow health care professionals. My focus as a nurse is the patient and the patient’s family. I am the representative for the patient and will stand as an advocate for them. I will help them feel as comfortable as possible during their stay in the hospital. I will connect with the patients by providing holistic care to them as well as their family. I will show compassion to each patient like they are my own family no matter the race, gender, age, financial status, or sexual orientation. I take pride in what I do, and I want that to be evident in the way I work with my patients and my coworkers. I will continue my education and verify that I am always practicing evidence-based practice.
To
live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I remember my patients are the focus of what I do as a
nurse. I will stand as an advocate for my patient and keep them informed of the
plan and goals for each day as well any information from the doctor. I will do
my best to make their stay at the hospital as pleasant as possible. My patients’
families are just as important as the
patient. I will expand my assessment to include the family. I will help
console, explain and make sure the family is as comfortable as the patient. My fellow health care professionals are my partners in caring for
my patient. We will communicate clearly in order to provide the highest
standard of care. I will take the responsibility to verify that every one on
the health care team is on the same page. My own health is just as important as the
health of my patients. I must remember to care for myself by taking appropriate
breaks. I will set the example by living a healthy lifestyle.
Professional Aspirations
Over the course of the next 5-10 years I see myself completing an MBA/MHA degree from the University of Utah. I would like to become a manager or administrator in a hospital.
